Jennifer Chown Shoe

For Children of War (Mobile/Windchime)
Symbols:
Tears fall like crystals
Pearls of great price, each child beyond value
Through their innocence run golden threads of strength.
A unity circle covers them.
The crowned purple jewels: those who work for peace.
Hearts tinkle their messages of hope, truth, compassion,
trust, mercy, wisdom, faith, joy, and love.
The solid heart, steadfast for young and old.
Butterflies, young spirits set free in peace.
Beloved shoe, beloved shoe......
the child who dreams...of no more war.

I want to be your Guardian Angel
Wrap my love around you
Keep you close to my heart
Protect you from the sins of humanity
Guide you to a place of Peace and Love

Sarah Jane Conklin Shoe 2007

So many lost laces, and lost childhood dreams,
Forgotten in worlds torn apart.
I cradle you safely, keep safe in my hand,
Forevermore, sewn in my heart.

Shoe Project 2007

Global Community Art Project on War-Affected Children
I invited artists at Artists' Afternoon to become involved in Stella Meade's shoe project. Above are photos of the original installation "footnote"(1996), comprised of 1001 hand built child-size shoes. Each ceramic, smoke-blackened and altered shoe represented 6000 children affected by war. Stella decided to put out a notice looking for creative people to take a shoe and to make something to hold, cover, or contain it that would symbolize an alleviation of the loss and damage. The shoes will be sent back to be exhibited and then offered for sale by donation. The proceeds will go to projects for children affected by war.
I will be posting the results of the nine shoes our group received at the end of March.
Please view the new website which will feature all the shoes: http://www.globalshoeproject.page.tl/
